| Control of Hazardous Energy
29 CFR 1910.147
Lockout/tag out procedures must be followed in order to prevent an unacceptable level of
risk to employees from the unexpected energization, start-up, or release of energy from
machinery or processes during servicing or maintenance of machines and/or equipment. The
lockout ensures that all potential energy is isolated from the equipment being worked on.
Confined Space Program
29 CFR 1910.146
Employers must protect employees from the hazards of entry into a confined space. A simple
workplace evaluation will determine if permit-required confined spaces are present.
Hearing Conservation Program
29 CFR 1910.95
Any workplace that exposes employees to noise levels at or above 85 decibels (8-Hour TWA on the A
scale using a standard sound level meter) must institute a Hearing Conservation Program. The goal
of the program is to install workable administrative or engineering controls which will reduce noise
levels. If the controls fail to produce necessary sound reduction levels, personal protective equipment
and training should be provided to prevent hearing loss.
Respiratory Protection Program
29 CFR 1910.134
The primary objective of this Code is to prevent air contamination in the workplace, eliminating
occupational diseases caused by harmful dusts, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, or vapors. This can usually be accomplished by generally accepted engineering control measures. When such
controls are not feasible, appropriate respirators shall be used. The Code requires employers to
provide employees with information and guidance on the proper selection and use of respirators that
will safeguard their health and well-being.
